January brought enriching experiences we are excited to share! As we move into February, we take a moment to reflect on the wonderful moments and events that took place in January at L'École.
La Galette des Rois Celebration
We kicked off the new year with the beloved French tradition of La Galette des Rois! This delicious King’s Cake features a buttery puff pastry filled with almond frangipane and a hidden fève! Whoever finds it becomes king or queen for the day! Check out these sweet moments full of smiles, crowns, and festive fun!
Parent Visit in 1st Grade
We welcomed a parent to the 1st-grade class to present her job as an echocardiographer. Students learned how the heart works. These visits provide a wonderful opportunity for children to discover different professions and perhaps even inspire future ambitions!
Visit from Dr. Felwine Sarr
We had the honor of welcoming the celebrated Franco-Senegalese philosopher, economist, writer, playwright, and musician Dr. Felwine Sarr to our school! He is currently a Distinguished Professor of French and Francophone studies at Duke University! He will soon collaborate with our 2nd and 3rd graders on an exciting new project. We sincerely appreciate his time and insights.
Chinese New Year Celebration
Thank you to the parents who visited our classrooms to share insights about the Chinese New Year! Students learned about the cultural significance of the holiday, including the importance of the color red for luck and the number 8 as a symbol of prosperity. They also discovered how families gather to celebrate and how children traditionally receive gifts from elders in red envelopes, symbolizing good fortune. Students participated in festive crafts, made lanterns, and tried typical Chinese food, immersing themselves in the cultural experience. We love celebrating diverse traditions with our school community!
